(2018—May) logo design process for Mighty craft beer by Black Slab
Mighty’s Logo Study is a brief start-to-finish look at my process and development for Mighty’s logo design. If per chance you’re bound for the island of Tap Mun, Hong Kong, keep an eye out for this Mighty refreshing craft beer whilst hiking there!
Phase 1. Research & Concept Development. This is where I do a lot of my initial research, colour studies and sketching of ideas. I’ve only included two of Mighty’s sketch pages here as an example, but this is the most critical step of the entire logo design process and I spend a lot of time here.
Phase 2. Design Development. At this stage I take my favourite sketches and ideas and begin to develop them digitally. I will usually work on 2-4 concepts for my first presentation. In Mighty’s case, I ended up with 5 or 6 different design directions I wanted to explore.
Phase 3. Design Refinement. This is where I take the client’s preferred design direction from phase 2 and make any necessary changes. We bounce back and forth until a final logo is decided. Only then do I start to work with colour. This is because a logo needs to work in black and white first!
Phase 4. Finished art. All final design changes are finalised and signed off and copyright is transferred over to the client along with the design assets.
